William Babbidge Smith, born November 2, 1859, Orrington, Penobscot County, Maine, a child of Francis Halfirty Smith and Amanda Babbidge, was a store clerk and clothing salesman early in his working life. September 11, 1883, probably in Orrington, he married Susan Marsh Rogers and they had at least two children: Flora Belle and Ralph Fisher. Later, William became a farmer; his wife Susan predeceasd him in 1946. William died March 3, 1953, probably in Orrington.
