Christine was born in one of the German Volga Colonies in Russia. Her parents were G.H. and M.C (nee Meier) Grauberger. She married Friedrich Hildermann. In September of 1899 they emigrated to Winnipeg, MB. Their two sons, John George and Reinhard, and their wives came along. Reinhard also brought two children, Eva and Jacob, but Jacob died enroute to Canada. They travelled by cattle boat, ships, and trains, and arrived in Winnipeg in November.

Friedrich was a carpenter, and while in Winnipeg he made saw horses. His sons split and sawed wood for $5 - $10 a cord. The women did laundry for Jewish families. In the spring of 1900 Friedrich went to Yorkton SK. to apply for two homesteads. In 1902 the whole family moved to the Rhein area.

Friedrich and Reinhard homesteaded and farmed 1 1/4 miles north of Rhein. They built a shack with a cellar, in which they lived temporarily, and began clearing the land. They built a 1 1/2 story house, large enough for about 10 people to live in. They used logs obtained from their farm, and hauled some from the Togo area with horses and a sleigh in the winter time.

Here Rests in God
Christine Hildermann
Born Grauberger
Born 15, April 1846
Died 20 June, 1920

THERE will be joyful life. THERE many thousand souls already are with heavenly radiance surrounding your God before His throne. THERE are the resplendent seraphim and the high song, "Holy, holy, holy are called God the Father, Son, and Spirit".

Ps.4:8 I lay and sleep altogether with peace: for you alone Lord make me safely dwell.
