Johan Georg (commonly known as George) was born in Morgentau (now called Nesterovo), Saratov, Russia. He married Katherine Elizabeth Becker on Nov.26, 1898 in Russia. In September of 1899 they and their first child, John George Frederick, immigrated to Winnipeg, MB. They immigrated with George's parents, Friedrich and Christine, his brother Reinhard, who had a wife and two children (one of whom died enroute), and his sister Catherina. In Winnipeg Friedrich worked as a carpenter. George and Reinhard split and sawed wood for $5 - $10 a cord. The women did laundry for Jewish families. In the spring of 1900 Friedrich went to Yorkton to apply for two homesteads. In 1902 the whole family moved to the Rhein area.

George and Katherine homesteaded a few miles NW of Rhein. George was one of the founders of Federhil School. He and Katharine built a large modern house on their homestead, but he died of the flu on Nov. 17, 1918, before he could move into it. George and Katherine had 11 children, who all grew up on the homestead: John George Jr. Mathilda Ernst), Annie, Jacob, Samuel, Emelie, Friedrich, Wilhelm, William, Lydia, Marie Katherine, and Albert.

Katherine married a widower named John Adam Graf in 1940. She passed away in 1948.
