The Rev. John Allen Bristow, 97, formerly of Abilene, died Saturday at a San Angelo nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Ron Curtis officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Bristow was born in Truby and moved to Abilene from Sweet Home (Haskell County) in 1927. He graduated from Simmons College (now Hardin-Simmons University) with a bachelor's degree in 1933 and was ordained a Baptist minister. He was a minister during the 1930s and retired from Lone Star Gas Company in 1966 after 25 years. He moved to San Angelo from Abilene in 1987. He was a member of University Baptist Church and Friendship Sunday school class. He married Bertha Amerson in 1928 in Rule; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include two brothers, Alvin Bristow of San Angelo and Riley Bristow of Gustine; and several nieces and nephews.
