Robert Stansell Asbell, 72, of 311 Country Club Drive died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Pekin Hospital.

Born Oct. 8, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Jeff Robert and Dora Helen Stansell Asbell, he married Joan Marie 'Jody' Rahn on Aug. 15, 1954, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Stephen (and Susan) of Tacoma, Wash., and Scott of Pekin; and two daughters, Susan (and R. Harris) Cummings of Cary, N.C., and Sheila (and Leslie) Allen of Bloomington.

He was a Korean War Army veteran, serving on the USS Princeton as a surgical technician in the medical division.

He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 38 years, retiring as disbursements division manager.

He was a charter board member of the Tazewell Hockey Association in 1965 and remained active in the administration of the men's amateur and youth hockey programs for many years. He also had been active in the Tremont Cub Scouts.

Private burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
