Married Ann Eliza Watson 16 September 1857 in Adams county Illinois.

Worked as a pork packer and in insurance.

Passed away in his apartment in the Trask building at 122 1/2 North Fifth in Quincy Illinois. Cause of death: erysipelas.

Mr. Smith is a veteran of the Civil war and had the rank of Lieutenant. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity.

The funeral of the late Merry Walker Smith was conducted from the Masonic parlors, yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock, by Reverend J. W. Kramer, following which the remains were laid away in Woodland cemetery.

After the services at the hall, the remains were escorted to Woodland cemetery by the members of Quincy lodge of Masons, and El Aksa Commandery. Deceased had been a member of both. F. W. Chumbley master of Quincy lodge had charge of the services at the grave.
