Mr. James F. Bacon, age 94, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville, Lyons, Soperton before moving to Alston eighteen years ago. He was a World War II Us Army Veteran and retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as a Superintendent. He was of the Baptist faith. Additionally, he was an avid gardener; ending to his flowers right up to the last months of his life. Mr. Bacon is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lou Bacon; his wife of 72 years, Mrs. Ruby Hazel Bacon; son, Franklin Bacon and a daughter, Louise Bacon and several siblings.

He is survived by his daughter in law, Linda Bacon of Collins; grandchildren, Gail Beach Downie of Vidalia, Timmy (Tracie) Bacon of Hayesville, NC., MeChelle (Rocky) Flowers of Lyons, Ramanda (Scott) Hughes of Blairsville; great-grandchildren Gordon (Whitney) Downie, Chellie Downie both of Vidalia, Tristan Loyd, Danielle Loyd, Dilan Flowers and Makayla Flowers all of Lyons, Trevor Hughes and Kyra Hughes of Blairsville; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
