He was born on June 5, 1923, in Harrison Township, the son of the late Russel M. and Helen (Kreischer) Hoover. On December 26, 1943, he married the former Alice Neoma Poling, who preceded him in death on February 15, 2013.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Karl Wermer and a brother-in-law, Floyd Gehres.
Family survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Wermer of Van Wert, Patricia (Brent) Basil of West Chester, OH, and Deborah Sheets of New Bavaria, OH; brother, Donald E. (Erma) Hoover of Convoy; sister, Margaret Gehres of Sun City, FL; seven grandchildren, Chad (Denise) Wermer, Julie Berger, Dennis (Lori) Sheets, David (Brandi) Sheets, Dale Sheets, Angela (Brant) Barcikowski, and Nick (Monica) Basil; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dale was a graduate of Tully Convoy High School. He was a member of St. Pauls Reformed Church in America, where he served as deacon and trustee of the church, and was active in the Men’s Fellowship. He was a retired farmer, and served on the Farm Service Agency for 50 years. He had been a member of the former Convoy Grange and the Crestview School Board. He was an avid Crestview Knights fan and supporter of the Knight Pride Club.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017, at St. Pauls Reformed Church in America in Harrison Township. Interment will follow at Evangelical Protestant Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 3 to 7 p.m., at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert and one hour prior to service Saturday at the Church.
Preferred memorials are to St. Pauls Reformed Church in America or the Knight Pride Club.
