Janis Skelton Bevis, 65, of Valdese, passed away Tuesday October 18, 2016 following a period of declining health.
Janis was born on July 31, 1951 in Anderson County, SC to the late J. Harold Skelton and Reed Banister Skelton. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher for Caldwell County Public Schools teaching at Hudson Elementary School for 30 years. She was a member of Xi Gamma Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and loved her sorority sisters like family. Janis loved to travel, loved being a part of the Women of Faith, loved taking cruises, she loved her church, she loved Clemson Tigers and going to football games, and had a lifetime love of Shelties. She was a charter member of Faith Community Church.
Survivors include her husband John Henry "Jay" Bevis, III of the home; her daughter, Katie Bevis Benfer and husband Kevin of Scottsdale, AZ; her son, Russ Bevis and wife Betsy of Jackson, TN; her sister, Betty Norman and husband Jay of Irving, TX; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday October 22, 2016 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Pastor Patrick Sheldon officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
