Born Jan. 2, 1914, he was the son of the late Joe A. Skelton and the late Eugenia Moore Skelton. He retired from Railway Express Company after 40 years service. He was a life member of Masons, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson where he served 35 years as General Secretary of the Sunday School and was a former deacon.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Reed Banister Skelton of the home; two daughters, Betty Norman and husband, Jay, of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Janis Bevis and husband, Jay, of Valdese, N.C.; four grandchildren, Marshall and Joe McGougan, and Katie and Russ Bevis; and three great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Trey, and Joshua McGougan.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Ray, and Ralph Skelton, and a sister, Mrs. Marge Glasscock. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home today, Nov. 28, 2004, at 3 p.m., with Dr. James R. Thomason officiating. Burial will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery.
