Sydney Morris Totty, 94 years old, of Memphis, TN, died January 27, 2017.

Sydney was born March 16, 1922 in Birmingham, AL. She was the 5th of 7 siblings, and graduated from Tech High School in Memphis in 1940. Sydney married Louis Blaine Totty, Sr. December 15, 1945.

Sydney worked for the draft board prior to marriage but resigned to start a family, with sons born in 1946 and 1950. When her husband died in 1957, she chose a job at the Memphis Army Depot until retiring in 1984.

Everyone in Sydney's life knew of her passion for golf. She would say that golf teaches a person all the skills for living - patience, kindness, joy, peace, gentleness, self-control and almost all of the fruits of the Spirit. Only her love for God, family, and friends outshone her passion for golf. She loved pulling family together and connecting the dots between family members. Whether a family member, church member, golf buddy, long time friend or a new friend, she made you feel special.

Facts about Sydney: member of Memphis Park Commission Sports Hall of Fame, narrowly avoided being shot in a lonely hearts kidnapping event at work, hiked a New Zealand glacier at age 85 and medieval cities in Italy at age 90, made 2 holes in one, shot her age not too long ago, and won a tournament in the 1967 qualifying to play in the Pro-Am tournament predecessor to the St. Jude Classic only to be denied entry because of gender.

Sydney was preceded in death by husband, Louis Blaine Totty, Sr., parents Eli Thomas Morris III and Sara Alexander "Tut" Morris, brothers Garland Carter Morris, Eli Thomas Morris, IV, Carl Alexander Morris, Enoch Cowan Morris, and sisters, Mildred Morris Skillern, and Dian Morris Siler. She is survived by her sons Louis Blaine Totty, Jr. of Jackson, MS, and Malcolm Gary Totty of Nashville, TN, sisters-in-law Julia Cook Morris and Patricia Odom Morris, as well as 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, family requests gifts be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and The First Tee of Memphis.
