Born September 6, 1942 in Prentiss County, she was one of nine children born to the late James Arlis and Luna Bell Johnson Thomas. Ms. Hurst was a graduate of Pisgah High School in Prentiss County and was a resident of Memphis for a number of years where she served as a office employee of the NAPA Auto Parts for over 20 years before retiring 7 years ago. She returned to her native Mississippi after retirement and had been a resident of the Walnut Community for 7 years. Ms. Hurst was a lifelong Baptist and enjoyed attending the Hamilton Baptist Church with her sisters and friends as long as health permitted.
Ms. Hurst will be remembered as a happy person with a pleasant sense of humor. She enjoyed activities with her grandchildren, reading, fishing and growing vegetables and flowers until her recent illness.
Visitation will continue Tuesday at The Ripley Funeral Home until service time.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Aaron Hurst (Stephanie) of Walnut Ridge, AR and Bryan Hurst (Shelly) of Leachville, AR, her sisters, Evelyn Conwill of Baldwyn, Ollie Fay Thomas of Corinth, Nancy Edwards of Ripley, TN and Shirley King of Ashland, 4 grandchildren, Tucker, Zachary, Dylan and Erica Hurst and her sons' father, Dwight Hurst of Hernando. She was also preceded in death by a sister and 3 brothers.
