Billy loved auto racing and watching his sons Gary and Michael race at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, and County Line Raceway in Elm City, NC. When not at the race track, he enjoyed horses, boating, fishing, or any activity that included his family.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and a friend to all that knew him. He was greatly loved and will be remembered often with memories that will make you smile.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons Randy Poythress and wife Jan Daniel of Elm City, Michael Poythress and wife Rebecca of Wilson, Gary Poythress and wife Jennifer of Wilson, grandchildren Brennan Poythress, Tyler Poythress, Kendall Edwards, Chase Poythress, and Jordan Poythress, great-granddaughter Leyna-Ann O’Neal, his sisters, Barbara Poythress Boykin and husband Ed of South Carolina, Ruby Glover of Wilson, his brother, Jimmy Poythress and wife, Judy of Elm City, his beloved horse, Maxx, and his favorite dog, Lil Ma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Morris Poythress; his grandchildren, Michael Shayne Poythress and Taner Poythress; his parents, Willard Lee Poythress and Lucille Hathaway Poythress, and his sister, Dot Rose, and Linda Campell.
