Barbara Ann Boykin (Poythress), of Irmo, SC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the age of 84.
Barbara was born on January 29, 1938, in Wilson, NC to the late Reverend Willard and Lucille Poythress (Hathaway).
She attended Charles L. Coon High School and married her childhood sweetheart, E.L., in 1956. Barbara retired from the SC State Credit Union in 2000 and soon began taking care of her grandchildren. Throughout her life, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, square dancing with the Kalico Kapers (a club with whom she danced for several years), reading, gardening, baking and sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ernest "E.L." Boykin; her children, Cindy Lambert (Bruce), Wendy Sanford (Vince), and Ernest Boykin Jr.; her grandchildren, Melissa Goff (Shawn), Paul Lambert (Chelsy), Lee Sanford (Melody), Allyson Sanford, and Kayla Boykin; her six great grandchildren, Oslynn, Elijah, Drake, Kelsey, River, and Madison; her siblings, Jimmy Poythress of Elm City, NC, and Ruby Glover of Wilson, NC.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Dot Rose, Billy Poythress, and Lynda Campbell.
A funeral is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 9 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held before the funeral starting at 2:00 pm.
