Mrs. Helen Rosa Curtis, 91, of Mission, TX., passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Mission Nursing Home in Mission, TX. Mrs. Curtis was born in Senath, MO., on April 11, 1925. She was a school teacher at New Hope School in Knobel, AR., she later became a seamstress. She then returned to school earning her nursing degree and began working at Mercy Hospital in Urbana, IL., as an L.P.N. She finished her working career and retired from Mission Regional Hospital in Mission, TX. She enjoyed singing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mission, TX., where her passion was volunteering for the children’s programs.
She married her husband of 50 years Mr. Elfra I. Curtis on December 23, 1946. He preceded her in death on June of 1997.
She is survived by two daughters Elfreda and husband Jim Harmon of Shorewood, IL., Rebecca Curtis of Mission, TX.; one grandson Benjamin Maffit of Joliet, IL.; one great-grandson Brandon Maffit; two sisters Syble and husband Jack Ingram of Corning, AR., Betty Vinson of Corning, AR.; one sister-in-law Dorris Fowler of Polk City, FL.; numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents Andrew F. and Susie J. (Bullington) Fowler; three sisters Nellie Calhoun, Maudie Hayes, Lucille Curtis; one brother William "Bud" Fowler; ten brother-in-law’s; four sister-in-law’s and three infant grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 23, 2016 at 1:30 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Josh Raspberry officiating. Burial will follow the services at Bond Cemetery in Knobel, AR. Visitation will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 from 12:30 PM until the time of services. ermertfuneralhome.com
