Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ray Guthrie will officiate.
Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
Born July 20, 1942 in Streator he was the son of Joseph and Inez (Johnson) Appel. He married Nancy L. Leonard on February 12, 1966 at St. Stephen’s Church, Streator. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2011.
He is survived by brothers, Alan (Cathie) Appel of Hudson and Daniel (Dorothy) Appel of Shiloh; a sister, Dolores Chalkey of Sanford; nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Born and raised in Lostant he attended Lostant Grade School and Lostant High School.
He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. He later worked for Owens Illinois Glass Factory for many years in the Machine Repair Department. He retired in 2005.
He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
