Francis David May, 86, passed away December 25, 2006, at Stow-Glen Retirement Village after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was born April 6, 1920 in Suffield, Ohio and was a 1939 graduate of Suffield High School. Francis was owner/operator of the family business, Frank May Garage, until retiring in 1981. Francis also loved his job as a bulldozer operator while working at Horning Builders Supply. He was a proud veteran of the Army having served during WWII, and serving as Staff Sergeant from 1942 - 1946. He was also a member of F.O.P. Lodge #6, V.F.W. Lodge #3383, AARP, the German-American Club, the Hungarian-American Club, and an honorary member of the Akron Turner Club. Francis shared a great passion for the skies and loved flying his airplane. He was the enthusiastic owner of a super modified race car and loved being part of the race team. His favorite days were spent relaxing and enjoying the sunshine while cruising in his boat. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Minnie (Wise) May; brother, Harry (Grace) May. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Irene E. (Fulop) May; son, Larry D. May of Akron; daughter, Cheryl L. May of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Jeffrey D. May (Theresa); granddaughter, Shelley Carter (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Taylor and Lucas May, and Kade Carter all of Akron. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Lee officiating. Entombment will follow a Hillside Memorial Park Mausoleum.
