Martin Schwindt was the second old son of Nicholas Schwindt and Anna Katrina Kaser. Like father like son, he followed the shoe-makers trade.

The burden of caring for the younger children fell to the oldest son, Henry. All of Martin's children eventually came to the USA except Elizabeth, who was married to Peter Lofing.
