LAWRENCE: Lucy A. (Austin) Cannon, 94, of Lawrence, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Willow Manor Nursing Home in Lowell. Born in Lawrence she was the daughter of the late Millard and Rachel (Bodwell) Austin.
Lucy was raised and educated in Lawrence. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1938 and the Burdette Business School in Boston.
Lucy worked as a bank teller for the Bay State National Bank and was a lifelong member of the First Calvary Baptist Church in North Andover.
Lucy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, William A. Cannon and her son, Robert Cannon.
She is survived by her great-nieces and nephews, Kimberly Larhette of Salem, N.H., John J. Dowd, Jr. and his wife Clare of Windham, N.H., John A. and Marguerite Dowd of Watertown, Dr. Shirlie Dowd of Portsmouth, N.H. and Rachel and Steven Polizzotti of Lowell. She also leaves behind four, soon to be five great-grandchildren.
Lucy was very proud that she was a direct descendent of Hannah Duston of Haverhill, who killed and scalped six Indians when they took her captive and killed her infant daughter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
