George Lyle Byrd, 74, died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 1992, at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Cutler Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Welch officiating, and Wes Henson assisting. Burial will be in Cutler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday at McDaniel Funeral Home in Percy, and after 8:30 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund.

Mr. Byrd owned and operated the Byrd Standard Service Station in Percy for 23 years. He later worked as a supervisor at Streamline Mine in Percy as well as serving as a Deputy Sheriff for Perry County. He was the last charter member of Cutler Baptist Church. He also attended the Tri-County Baptist Church in Willisville. He was member of the VFW post in Chester, and American Legion Post 331 in Willisville. He was a World War II veteran of the Army.

He was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Willisville to George W. and Nettie Pearl (Wilson) Byrd. He married Gloria Lucille Levi on Dec. 14, 1942. She survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lawonna Green of Salem, Mrs. Donna Welch of Waynesville, Mo., Mrs. Daryl Ryan of Millstadt and Sharla Welch of Rogers, Ark.; nine grandchildren two great-grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Edith Fern Minton of Cutler and Earnestine Byrd of Cutler. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
