Marvin John Glass Sr., 76, Bismarck, died May 25, 2007, at Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, with family at his side. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military honors provided by VFW Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, where vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Marvin was born July 12, 1930, at Linton, the second child of Michael and Mary (Lipp) Glass. He was raised on his parents' farm in Linton. Always wanting to be a soldier, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1948. He was trained at Fort Sill, Okla., and was sent to Korea, in 1950, with the 176th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. Following service in Korea, he was then sent to Germany as part of the World War II Army of Occupation. He began working at the post office after his honorable discharge from the Army, in 1954. Marvin married Margaret (Gabel) Rittel Oct. 22, 1963.

Marvin enjoyed being with his family, watching sports and taking long walks.

He is survived by his son, Marvin (Stacy) Glass, and granddaughters, Brianna and Bethany, all of California; his daughter, Agnes (Maurice) Ternes, Bismarck; his step-daughters, Donna (Dave) Davidson, Nevada, Carol (Luther) Umphrey, Montana, Karen Rittel, Arizona, and Debbie (Ken) Gross, Mandan; his brothers, Eugene (Dolores), Ray (Lola), Kenny and Butch (Nancy), all of Bismarck, and Joe (Alvina), Mandan; his sisters, Luella Swoboda, Washington, and Dottie (Jerry) Horner, Bismarck; his sister-in-law, Maxine, Bismarck; eight step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1988; his parents; and his brother, Abe.
