Lottie Fellows Barner
Charlotte "Lottie" Fellows was born 31 Aug 1850 in Cooperstown, a village in the town of Otsego, Otsego County, New York, the 4th child of Rathbone Richard Fellows and Celia Emma Maddox. She had tuberculosis as a child, so she was left behind when her parents and siblings moved to Lyons, Walworth, Wisconsin in 1858, too ill to travel.

For the rest of her young life, she lived with her Aunt L. Charlotte Fellows and her aunt's 1st husband, Charles Thurber, in Albany, New York, taking the last name of Thurber. In 1871, Lottie, aged 21, married the handsome James David Barner, who worked for a knit goods manufacturer in Albany. Lottie and James then lived with her aunt and uncle on 203 Lancaster Street. James was the son of David J. Barner and Sarah Guernsey of Cobleskill, Schoharie, New York.

Lottie sadly didn't survive her illness past age 27, as she died on 15 Nov 1877 in Albany. She was buried in the same lot as her aunt and uncle in Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, Albany County. Her husband James David Barner later married Marie Theresa McCarthy and died in Brunswick, Cumberland County, Maine, where he was buried in Riverside Cemetery.

Lottie was greatly missed by her Wisconsin family, who saved many photos of her. Her younger brother Charles Rathbone Fellows named his daughter Lottie Barner Fellows (1880-1972) after her. Family photos show that Lottie appears to have been close to her aunt and uncle's family friend, William Thorn, who later became the 2nd husband of her aunt Charlotte after their spouses died.

- By Joan Stewart Smith, Lottie's great grandniece
