Nina was born in Ruth, Nevada to Charles A. Owen and Daisy A. Palmer. Nina grew up in Hunter and attended Cyprus High School.
She married Vernal A. “Pinky” Andersen in the Salt Lake Temple on 1 October 1947. They moved to Tooele in 1949.
Nina was very active in whatever ward she lived in; callings included Relief Society President, Primary President, Nursery Leader, Visiting Teacher Coordinator, and Cub Scout Leader. She was also active in the community, having served as a poll worker for many years.
Nina loved to sing and was in her ward choir and sang for many years in Tooele Valley’s annual Messiah production. Nina also enjoyed sewing and ceramics. One year, she made all of her grandchildren “Strawberry Patch Kids” dolls for Christmas (They had a large strawberry patch at the time).
Nina and Pinky served in the Canada Vancouver mission for the LDS Church from October 1987 to July 1988. Upon their return, they volunteered at the Tooele Deseret Industries from 1990 to 1995. Nina and Pinky loved the temple and attended weekly for over twenty years.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, brothers, Spencer, Vernon, George, and Leo; sisters, Lela, Lapriel, Lucile, and Iretta; and grandson, Michael Andersen. She is survived by her sister, Edna (John Ross) Andersen, of Ivins; children, Robert Andersen (Lynn) of Tooele, Gary Andersen (Barbara) of Sandy, Peggy York (Richard) of West Valley City, James Andersen of Tooele, Connie Hendricks (Mike) of Tooele, Kaye Lopez (Henry) of Bountiful, and Scott Andersen (Taunya) of Murray. They have twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 South Main Street, Tooele, on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m., on Friday, December 9, 2016 in the Tooele Thirteenth Ward Meetinghouse, 1025 Southwest Drive, Tooele.
Interment will take place at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road (1700 West), Taylorsville.
