Phyllis Arlene Land Polzkill Hansen, 88, of Grand Island, formerly of Alma, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Delano Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Fullerton Cemetery.

Phyllis Arlene Land Polzkill Hansen, was the sixth child of McKinley and Faye (Campbell) Land born July 25, 1928, in Clarks. Her childhood years were spent in the Hordville and Central City areas. As a child she attended the Mount Zion Church at Hordville. In her early adult life she worked at Woody’s Café, Douthits Café and Cold Storage in Central City. She then moved to the Alma area where she worked at the Depot Café and Lounge and did cleaning for the Corps of Engineers. Phyllis met her husband, John William Polzkill, in Central City. They married on Aug. 1, 1949 in Central City. To this union five children were born, Billy Dean, Carol Lynn, Delbert Eugene, Ricky Lee and Douglas William. During their married years they lived in the Central City and Marquette area. John passed away Aug. 19, 1976.

Phyllis later married Arnold Hansen, and they first resided in Marquette then moved to Republican City and eventually to Alma. Arnold then passed away, but Phyllis remained in Alma until she started having health problems in 2016. She then went to Byron to live with her daughter and husband, until August when she moved to Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Phyllis enjoyed playing cards, playing pickle cards, gardening and doing embroidery work. She was featured in the Alma newspaper with many of the items she had made, with the headline, “SANTA’S LITTLE HELPER.” Her favorite musician was Johnny Cash, whom she saw in concert while vacationing with her children in Branson, Mo.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses; Billy Dean and Gloria Polzkill, Carol Lynn and “Peanuts” Volesky, Ricky Lee and Margaret Polzkill, Douglas William Polzkill; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Polzkill Miller; her grandchildren, Jonathan William, Elizabeth Margaret Polzkill, Jessica Arlene Roman and Brady Wilson; her great-granddaughter, Audrina Polzkill; a brother and sister-in-law; Wendall and Peggy; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine Beckstrom, Betty Person, Jeanelle and Ken Mort and Patricia and Frank Guttson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; two husbands; a son, Delbert; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Virgil and Evelyn, Jerry and Velma, and Donald; four sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and Arthur Dreiks, Virginia and George Hovey, Ethel and Louie Dettman and Donna and Robert Spires; four brothers-in-law, Irvin Beckstrom, Marvin Person, Bernard and Paul Polzkill; a sister-in-law, Fern Polzkill; and 10 nieces and nephews.
