Mr. Okie Matthew Griffin, 96, died Monday (February 6, 2012) at the Hospice House Satilla following a short illness. He was a native and a lifelong resident of Ware County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther O'Neal Griffin; his parents, Matthew "Math" Griffin and Emaline Albritton Griffin; and his siblings, Ophelia Smith, Bessie Camp, Noah Griffin, Arthur Griffin, Agie Griffin, Buck Griffin, Gaston "Preacher" Griffin, Allen "Shorty" Griffin and Oscar "Snap" Griffin. He was a retired farmer and attended Primitive Baptist Church services. Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Pittman (husband Edgar) of Ruskin, Louise Hodges of Waycross, Dollie Ruth White (husband Lloyd) of Millwood; four sons, Matthew Griffin, Curtis Griffin (wife Paula) and Jack Griffin all of Ruskin, James Griffin (wife Janell) of Jesup; 19 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday (February 9, 2012) at Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
