NEW MANCHESTER — Lucille Adkins Miller, 98, of New Manchester, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at the Weirton Geriatric Center in Weirton.

NEW MANCHESTER, W. Va. – Lucille Adkins Miller, 98, of Gas Valley Road, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at the Weirton Geriatric Center, where she had been a patient for more than four years and lately was additionally under the care of Valley Hospice.
She was born in Midkiff, Lincoln County, W.Va., on July 8, 1918, the third youngest of six daughters and four sons of Millard Fillmore Adkins and Lelia Jane Adkins. She was predeceased by all but her youngest sister, Edith Moore, 92, of Hamersville, Ohio.
Lucille was a beloved wife, mother, friend and homemaker, and a mainstay in her church, Fairview Presbyterian. She was known for her loving nature and welcoming, nurturing personality. Everyone who came to the home of Lester and Lucille Miller was warmly welcomed and well fed.
She operated the concession stand at Tomlinson Run State Park swimming pool in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and later was proprietor of the Dari Dell on Route 8, a seasonal ice cream and sandwich drive-in.
She met Lester Campbell Miller when he was working as a state agricultural agent in southern West Virginia. They were married on Jan. 4, 1941. Lester later worked at Crucible Steel in Midland, Pa., and the family relocated to the Miller farm on Gas Valley Road.
Lester died April 14, 1992.
In addition to her sister Edith, Lucille is survived by her daughter Dr. A. Jeanne Miller and husband Dale Bailey of Cape Canaveral, Fla., her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Bahnsen and husband John C. “Doc” Bahnsen of New Manchester, her son Fred Miller and wife Dr. Caren Miller of New Manchester; grandchildren Ryan (Misty) Miller of New Manchester, Molly (Heath) Devore of Chester, and Cody Miller of Lewisburg, Pa.; and great-grandsons Caleb Miller, Grant Miller, Joel Miller, Corban Devore and Carter Devore.
The family will receive friends at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 2, at Arner Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery in New Manchester.
