Jack Dack, 89, of Marshalltown passed away at Bickford Cottage on Sunday, November 20, 2016 with his family by his side.

A private memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Military Honors will be provided by the Combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veteran’s Home, Iowa River Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association, and First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown.

Jack was born on March 19, 1927 in Lovilia, Iowa, to the proud parents of John and Cornelia (Nicholson) Dack. Jack was involved in many sports growing up, but he mostly enjoyed football. Jack honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy during the Second World War. Jack was soon to find himself courting the young Twilla Worrall. The two would be married on June 6, 1948. Jack attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1953 with a BA in Medical Therapy.
Jack was a proud member of the American Legion, American Vets, and the 40 and 8 Club. Jack was most known for being the Commandant of the Iowa Veteran’s Home for over 33 years. In his time at the Veteran’s Home he never met a stranger. Jack was forever memorialized by having a building named after him at the Veteran’s Home. When he had free time he could always be found fishing with his good friend, Dr. Dean Baker.
To cherish Jack’s memory are his wife of 68 years, Twilla; son, Robert; grandson, Shane; great-granddaughter, Balee Grace; and sister, Beverly Williams.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ronald, Donald, and Marjorie.
