Lena's children honored her with a surprise for her birthday in 1989. There was a special service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leopolis, WI during which her granddaughter, Mary Kusiak, sang and another granddaughter, Kathleen Adams, was the Lector. The service was followed by a reception and lunch at Pella Town Hall. The following was noted on the program for the service:
Magdalena Sousek Adams was born on August 15, 1905 to Wenzel and Anna Sousek on a farm near Leopolis. She is the youngest of 6 children having had two sisters and three brothers: Mary, Anna, Gabriel, Albert and George.
"Lena" Married Edwin Adams in 1923. They had 4 children: Oren, Allen, Robert and Elaine. They owned and operated a farm near Pella for many years. Even though these years were filled with much hard work Lena managed to sew and have a beautiful garden.
In 1955 they moved to Marion where she worked for Dr. and Mrs. McInnis. Lena "officially" retired in her early seventies.
"Grandma" Adams now has 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Two more great-grandchildren are expected in 1989 by Peter and Julie Adams and Robert and Julie Zalewski.
Grandma now lives in a mobile home on the farm of her son Allen near Leopolis. She still does her own housework and bakes blue ribbon pies. Phone calls and visitors are always welcome.
