Services Listed for Mr. Tweedy
Funeral services were conducted today in Hingham, Mass., for Albert William Tweedy, 76, a native of Poughkeepsie who died Sunday at his home, “Crossways,” there. Services were at St. John the Evangelist Church and burial was in Fort Hill Cemetery, South Hingham. Born in Poughkeepsie on Nov 21, 1890, Mr. Tweedy was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Tweedy of Dean Place. He attended local schools and was graduated from the New York University Law School. A partner in the Boston investment banking firm of H.C. Wainwright Co., he was a past president of the Union Club of Boston, belonged to the Bostonian Society and the Old Colony Masonic Lodge, and was a former governor of the Nation Association of Securities Dealers. From 1942 to 1950 he was a Selectman of Hingham. During World War I he served overseas as a captain in the 305th Infantry and during World War II was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Massachusetts State Guard. He also was a member of the Seventh Regiment of New York. His home, “Crossways, “ was built in 1754 and was the site of John Adam’s early schooling. Mr. Tweedy raised sheep as a hobby and his daily raising of the American Flag on his lawn, until a few weeks ago, was a fixture of the Hingham community.
Survivors include his wife, the former Rosalie Mayer of Newport, R.I., three sons, Robert of San Francisco; John, of Hingham and Lloyd of Pelham, N.Y., a director of ABC-TV. Another son, William, was killed in the battle of Midway in World War II. He also leaves one grandson; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Garnjust of New York City; and two cousins, Miss June Aulick of New York City and Miss Susan Tweedy of 1 Carroll St., city.
