HERMAN ABMA IS SUMMONED
Resident Pioneer Home Dies at Age 69 [sic!]

Herman Abma departed this life on Friday, July 14, at the Pioneer Memorial Home, after an illness of three weeks due to advanced age.

He was born at Romlet, the Netherlands, in 1844, and therefore had reached the ripe old age of 89 at the time of his death.

In 1866 he married Miss Josie Rielsma [sic], and in 1889 they emigrated to this country and settled in Orange City. A few months ago Mr. and Mrs. Abma celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They entered the Pioneer home on september 1, 1931.

Mr. Abma is survived by his wife and two children – a son, Ted Abma of Springfield, S.D., and a daughter, Anna, Mrs. J. Peters of Orange City.

He had been a member of the First Reformed church for many years.

Despite his years he was quite active up to a few weeks ago, frequently walking downtown and to church.

The funeral took place on Monday, July 17, at the First Reformed church with Rev. H. Colenbrander in charge.
