Dale Griffis 81, of Lafayette, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, December 25, 2006, at St Elizabeth Medical Center. He had been a patient there for the past week. born Feb 1, 1925, to the late Charles and Alta Mae McBride Griffis in Stockwell, he was raised in Rossville, and resided most of his life in Lafayette. He was a 1944 graduate of Rossville High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr Griffis worked at Ross Gear for 34 years before retiring. He was a member of St Lawrence Catholic Church and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Purdue University women basketball fan. Surviving are two daughters, Connie Griffis and Karen Griffis, both of Lafayette; and a son, William Griffis, wife, Debbie of Lafayette. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber funeral home, 1104 Columbia Street, Lafayette, from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Funeral services at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home 10 a.m. Friday. Father Jeff Martin officiating. Interment St Boniface Cemetery with Navy military honors. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Michael E Griffis, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
