Walter Weir, M.A., father of artist Irene Weir, was a son of Robert W. Weir, National Academician, who, in 1832 was appointed Professor of Drawing in the Military Academy at West Point. He held this post for forty-two years, and in the Chapel at the Academy, is a large allegorical work, Peace and War, ranked as probably his finest production.
