26 Jul 2004: Herbert V. Knighton, 80, of Hummelstown and formerly of Palmyra and Tamaqua, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at home. He was the husband of Karen Mark Knighton and the late Marjorie Smith Knighton. He was born March 26, 1924, in New York, N.Y., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he received a juris doctorate, and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. He retired in 1997 as a workers compensation judge for Pennsylvania. Prior to that, he was a senior claims adjuster for USF&G. He was a member of Church of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, Hershey, where he served as an elder, and a longtime member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Palmyra, where he served as elder, secretary of consistory and a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and Palmyra Toast Masters, where he served as president. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Rev. Leonard S. Knighton of Baltimore, Md.; daughters Barbara Knighton Pope of San Antonio, Texas, and Sheryl Ann Fisher of Bloomington, Ind.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a cousin. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Church of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, 500 W. Chocolate Ave., Hershey, with a viewing at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Hoover Funeral Homes and Crematory, Hershey, is handling arrangements. [Lebanon Daily News]
