She was born October 29, 1952, in Hershey, a daughter of the late Howard B. and Ethel Mae (Beam) Mark.
Karen was a 1970 graduate of Hershey High School and after 27 years of service, retired as an Administrative Officer for the Pennsylvania Dept., of Labor & Industry's Bureau of Worker's Compensation, where she was in charge of medical processing and payment. She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, 500 W. Chocolate Avenue, in Hershey, where she had served as a Deacon and was very involved in the Meals on Wheels program.
Surviving are a brother, Timothy I. Mark of Tampa, FL; two sisters, her twin sister Sharon Cole Engdahl and husband Terry of Marysville and Sara "Kathy" Mark Freed and husband Jack of Harrisburg; step-son, Rev. Leonard S. Knighton and wife Trudy of Palmyra; two step-daughters, Barbara Pope and husband Raymond of San Antonio, TX and Sherry Knighton-Schwandt and husband Thomas of Bloomington, IN; four grandchildren, Geoffrey and Michael Pope, Jeremy Fisher and Brandy Abel; eight great grandchildren; five nieces and nephews, Sandy Cole Grant, Amy E. Mark, Audrey Cole Cannizzaro, and Mark and Rose Freed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert V. Knighton, sister, Mary Ellen Mark, and nephew, Andrew "Drew" Mark.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Route #422 & Lucy Avenue, Hershey, with the Rev. Betsy Bruaw and the Rev. Leonard S. Knighton officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
