Marvin Jessop, 79, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.

Marvin was born July 23, 1937 in Ottumwa, Iowa to William and Bertha (Clarkson) Jessop. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1957.

Marvin than joined the Iowa National Guard where he served from 1957 to 1959. In 1959, he transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves and served until 1963 as a cook.

He pursued his interest in cooking and graduated from Indian Hills Community College’s Culinary Arts program in 1968. Marvin worked for Food Service Management for over 30 years and Ambassador Foods for over two years. He had also been a bus driver for MTA.

Marvin was a member of Faith Independent Assembly of God Church.

Marvin is survived by his daughters, Marlene Meyers, Julie Owens and Carol Hicks; sister, Cleo Osteen; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his best friend and caregiver, Carlton “Chris” Moorhead.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a brother; son, Mark; and the love of his life, his wife of 45 years, Norma J. (Wood) Jessop.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, October 27th at the funeral home. Marvin will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Norma at Elm Grove Cemetery.
