A gentle and kind man. Strong in his faith and a man who loved his family.

These words define James Oliver Smith, who went to be with his Lord and Savior.

James O. was a hard worker who grew up on a farm in South Carolina, served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and later graduating from Clemson University. James O. loved his Clemson Tigers and was a fisherman and golfer.

He was the son of the late Oscar Lougarry Smith and Clara Baldwin Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Smith along with four sisters and five brothers.

Those left to cherish his memories are his three daughters and sons in law: Cynthia Smith of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, Kathy and Ronald King of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Pamela and Jeffery Luther of Harrisburg, North Carolina; two sisters: Mildred McClean of Donald's, South Carolina and Lula Hanks of Honea Path, South Carolina; six grandchildren: Ben and Kristen Harrell, Katie Harrell, Keith Harrell, Jonathan "Wade" King, Laura Luther, Steven Lawing; three great-grandchildren: Riley Harrell, Aurora Harrell and Olivia Johnson.

Graveside and Committal Service:War Memorial III Garden at Gaston Memorial Park with the Rev. Sally Queen.Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army.

Pallbearers are Jeffery Luther, Keith Harrell, Ronald King, Wade King, Ben Harrell and Chuck Beam.
