James L. Garrett, 82, was born November 20, 1933 in Spartanburg County, SC to the late Leonard and Beulah Roberts Garrett. He graduated from Douglass High School in Baltimore, MD and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After 21 years of service, he retired with honors. Upon moving to Pensacola, he was employed with the NAS Civil Services, from which he retired after 20 years. He was a member of the Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Trustee Board. He was also a member of St. John Lodge #189 until his health began to fail. Garrett, as he was called, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Garrett McCrary and brother, Willie Roberts. Left to cherish his memory, his loving and caring wife of 60 years, Louise Garrett; son, Gregory (Michelle) Garrett; daughter, Sherry (Leonard) Garrett-Gunner; son-in-law, Eddie McCrary; grandchildren, Angela (Jermaine) Mack; Gina Garrett; Gregory Garrett II; Garrett McCrary; Gerard Gunner; Alexa Garrett; and Xavier Gunner; great-grandchildren, Donovan and Cameron Mack; two sisters-in-law, Gussie Butler and Patsy Roberts; one brother-in-law, Henry (Mamie) Mayfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation: Sunday, October 16, 2016, 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Tracy Morton Memorial Chapel. Funeral: Monday, October 17, 2016, 12:00 p.m. at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. Burial: Barrancas National Cemetery.


His brother Willie Bert Roberts is buried at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
