Ida County Pioneer Record, Dec. 9. 1971: Jessie Oliver Hosier, son of Ida Barlett and John Wesley Hosier was born in Clayton County, Iowa on December 13, 1887 and passed away November 27, 1971 at the age of 83 years. He was born in a log cabin which his father had built on the Turkey River and spent his boyhood in Kossuth, Hancock and Black Hawk Counties, Iowa. He completed eighth grade and attended the Academy at Morningside College in Sioux City. While employed as a tiler, digging ditches by hand, for M. N. Ives of Rolfe, he met and married Minnie M. Ives, the hired girl. They were married January 10, 1917 at the farm home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Ives. Two children were born to this union: Marie, Mrs. Darrell J. Noll and Richard. Mr. Hosier farmed in the Rolfe community for thirty years, and also lived at Bison, South Dakota; Sac City and Plover, Iowa and Milan, Missouri. For the past year, the Hosier resided at Colonial Manor at Odebolt, Ia. In 1967, Jess and Minnie observed their Golden Wedding anniversary.
