Mrs. Rebekah McLaughlin, one of the pioneer settlers of Rock Island county, and the oldest citizen of Milan, died at her home this morning at 4:30 of infirmities of age after an illness of six weeks.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born at Harts Log, Hunting county, Pa., May 23, 1822. She was married to Randall McLaughlin in Hollidaysburg, Pa., Oct. 18, 1842, and the couple lived there for a few years, then moved to Stormstown, Pa., for a short time, thence coming to Rock Island May 8, 1850. They took up their residence at Big island, where they remained for 25 years, at which place Mr. McLaughlin was called by death in 1861. Mrs. McLaughlin has made her home in Milan since 1882. At the time of her husband's death, Mrs. McLaughlin was left to care for 10 children, and besides providing for her own offspring, raised six children belonging to her sister and brother.

The children that survive are Joseph A. of Geneseo; George A. of Sioux City, Iowa; William Y. and Lewis H. of Emerson, Neb., and Cyrus D. and Mary E. at home. There are 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren living.

The funeral will be held from the Presbyterian church of Milan Monday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Milton G. Hanna officiating. Burial will take place at Chippiannock cemetery.

It is the request of the family that no flowers be sent.
