Mrs. James D. Lafferty passed away at her home in Milan at 12:10 this afternoon after an illness of nearly 18 months with kidney trouble. A year ago she went west remaining some months in hopes a change would benefit her, but when she returned her friends knew that she would never be any better. Since the first of the year she has been failing, not leaving her bed since Jan.9.

Isabella McLaughlin was born in Holidaysburg, Pa., Aug. 28, 1845, and was the daughter of the late Randall and Mrs. Rebecca McLaughlin. When a child of 4 years she came west with her parents and has spent the most of her life at Milan. The father died in March, 1861, and as the oldest daughter she was her mother's standby during the early years, when the older sons were at the front during the Civil war and the younger ones needed watching and care. March 27, 1865 deceased was married to James D. Lafferty just before he went to the front during the closing year of the war. The husband was ill with smallpox at Montgomery, Ala., and the result was that he became totally blind after a period of severe invalidism and for the last 20 years has been the care of the faithful wife.

Surviving are the husband, one daughter, Miss Helen H.; five brothers, Joseph M. of Geneseo, George A. of Sioux City, William Y. and Lewis H. of Emerson, Neb., and Cyrus D. of Milan, and one sister, Miss Mary E. McLaughlin of Milan.
