Arthur was born Epke Visser in May 1908 at the Oude Bildtdijk (Old Bildt's Dyke), located just north of the country village of St. Jacobiparochie, in the extreme northwestern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland. He was the fourth of nine children and third son of Wiebe Visser (30 years old, baker) and Jiskje Wiersma. Source: scan of his birth certificate, Familysearch.
The Oude Bildtdijk was built in 1505 and is with 12,1 km the longest street in the Netherlands with houses and the longest dyke with houses in Europe. See also https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oudebildtdijk.

On April 20, 1913 he left home for Canada with his parents, 5 siblings and 20 other Visser relatives and arrived on May 13 at the city of Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province Alberta, where three more siblings were born, Cornelius (1914), Simon (1915) and Annie (1918).

After being educated in Edmonton, Art joined his family on the homestead in the Dutch agrarian hamlet of Neerlandia, located about 60 miles northwest of Edmonton.

On December 20, 1938 he married in Edmonton Lula Sturwold, who was born on March 30, 1913 in McBain, Michigan. They lived in a house that was built on Art's father's quarter in Neerlandia.

From 1940 until 1951 the Fishers had five children in Neerlandia. During this period Art was the local trucker, first in partnership with his brother Dick and later on his own. He did also the accounting for many of the local farmers and helped to install the local telephone system.

In 1958 the family moved to Edmonton, where Arthur William Fisher died in January 1973 at the age of 64 years. His widow Lulu lived in 1984 still in their original house in Edmonton.
