Wiebe Visser (Fisher) was born May 13, 1874 and he was the son of Jelte Annes Visser (24 years old, and a bread baker) and Sjoukje Wiebes van der Ploeg (Of the Plough). In May 3, 1902 he married Jiskje Wiersma, in Gaastmeer, Netherlands, a country and lakeside village which is located in the midst of several lakes (lake = meer in Dutch) in the southwestern part of the Dutch north province Friesland. Jiskje had been born on July 26, 1879 in Friesland, Netherlands, and was five years younger. Upon their marriage, they moved to Oude Bildtdijk where they bought a bakery. Six of their nine children were born there.

On April 20, 1913 the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where three more children would be born. When Wiebe came to Canada, he changed his name from 'Visser' to 'Fisher', though not officially. In the spring of 1925, Wiebe and two of his sons, came to Neerlandia and bought a quarter section. Wiebe remained on the farm till he passed away on May 27, 1950. Jiskje died in 1950.
