For 28 years the beloved Pastor at Bruington.

The son of John Christopher Bagby and Elizabeth Courtney Bagby. Richard married Ann Elizabeth Motley in King and Queen. They had two daughters. Richard was educated at Richmond and Columbian Colleges. He taught and studied law before answering the higher call. He was ordained at Mattponi and was pastor at Bruington for twenty-eight years. He was cultured and able, one of the foremost men of Virginia.

During the Civil War he was Captain of the Home Guard. It was composed of the finest men of the county and met the enemy with such prowess as to gain the compliments of the professional Federal General invading.
