The Oklahoman, Sunday, June 7, 1970:
Mrs Essie Ray Barlow, 71, of 819 NW 16, died Saturday in the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be 4 pm Monday in First Baptist Church with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery directed by Guardian Midtown Funeral Home.

Mrs Barlow was born in Manchesster, TX, moved to Shawnee in 1919 and came to Oklahoma City in 1926. She was owner and operator of Barlow Chemical Association until her retirement in 1964. She was a longtime employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.

She was active in Phi Eta Business Women's Sorority, a member of the Omega Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Assn of Retired Persons, and a member of First Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher for 15 years.

Survivors include daughter, Mrs Justin VanWie, 7223 Seminole Drive; a son, James R., San Gabriel, CA; two stepsons, John T. and Robert W., both of OKC; three sisters, Mrs Tee Amend, Shawnee; Mrs Ola Amend, Shawnee; and Mrs V. A. Irvin, Lubbock, TX; and three brothers, Cecil Ray, OKC; Johnnie Ray, Dallas; and Will Ray, Valient.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Ressearch Foundation Cancer Fund.
