Richard Stephen Bedgood is the son of Old John Bedgood (Revolutionary Soldier)and Mary White. The identity of Mary White is no longer documented with any remaining public record, but is consistent with most Bedgood researchers since 1989. Richard was born in NC 1780.

He married Nancy Unknown around 1805 in Georgia. Together they had the following seven known children:
1-Mourning H Bedgood 1807-1860, married Benjamin Glover and lived in Jefferson Co, Georgia. She named one daughter in honor of her mother, Nancy.
2-John Bedgood 1810-??. John moved to Alabama.
3-Richard (aka Richmond) Bedgood 1812-1868, married Elizabeth D Whitfield and moved to Butler Co, Alabama. He had no children, but left a will in 1868 naming his wife, siblings and some nieces/nephews.
4-Mahala Bedgood 1813-1869, married Samuel Spurlock and they moved to Alabama. She named one daughter in honor of her mother, Nancy.
5-Elizabeth Bedgood 1819-1892, married Hilary Frost and moved to Alabama. She named one daughter in honor of her mother, Nancy.
6-Aytchsey 'Axie' Bedgood 1826-1905, married Mitchell Griffin Fortner. They lived in Jefferson County, Ga for a while before moving to Polk Co, Florida. She named one daughter in honor of her mother, Nancy. Axie's husband became Administrator for the estate of her father Richard Stephen Bedgood in 1848.
7-Juliann Bedgood 1827-1855, married Shellmon Wells Whitfield.

Richard Stephen Bedgood had land draws in 1805 and 1807. In 1808, Richard sold some of the land he accumulated through the land draws. He is listed on the Washington Co, Georgia 1820 census and tax lists in 1825 and 1828.

Also in 1828, Richard was named executor to his father's estate (estate of old John Bedgood 1734-1828). In 1830, Richard had to sell off 500 acres of Old John's estate to satisfy a debt to Miles Whitfield. Richard is listed on the 1840 Washington Co, Georgia census living near his brother, Samuel F Bedgood. In 1835, as Administrator of Old John's estate, he applied to sell another 200 acres of land.

In 1838, he became the legal guardian of Nancy Wester, orphan of his friend Richard Wester.

He is listed on the 1840 census.

Richard dies around the end of 1847. In Jan 1848, his son in law, Mitchell G Fortner applies for letter of Administration to handle his estate.
