Obituary for Benjamin Carl Jordan
Conway.....Benjamin Carl Jordan died Monday morning at home after a long illness. Born 02/18/1937, he was the son of the late BC "Buddy" Jordan & Nettie Jane Skipper Jordan. He graduated from Conway High in 1955 and went to a Technical College while working. He worked with Imperial Tobacco Company in the early 1950's as a bookkeeper and assistant tobacco buyer. He also transported tobacco for Mire's Imperial and other companies in the late '50's and early '60's. He also worked for Dargan Construction Company as a Superintendant, and retired in 2001 after 37 years. After retirement, he continued doing what he loved, farming. As well as being a wonderful father to his own children, he was also like a father to many others around him. Those close to him knew him as Daddy, Papa or Uncle Carl. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church and served on the maintenance committee. Four deceased siblings, Claude Jordan, Leona Jordan, Dorothy Mae Hardee, and Hoyt Jordan. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Virginia Long Jordan, four sons and their wives, Benjamin Clarence & Betty S. Jordan, Glenn Dale & Jeanette D. Jordan, Delwin & Melissa H. Jordan, John Carl & Carla Y. Jordan and a daughter, Sonja Jordan, all of Conway. Four grandchildren, Benjamin Carl Jordan, Amanda Nicole Jordan, Meagan Michelle Jordan and Taylor Bryce Jordan, three step-grandchildren, Patrick & Russell Alford and Jesse Cannon, and two great grandchildren, Alexia Nicole Jordan and Dylan Chance Alford. Four sisters, Dottie Hughes, Hazel Flowers, Danette Osborne all of Conway and Annie Faye Jayroe of Georgetown. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mack Hutson, Rev. Tom Swilley and Richard Jayroe officiating. Burial will follow in the Jordan Family Cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to Duke University Lymphoma Research Fund, C/O Alumni & Development Office, Box 90581, Durham, North Carolina, 27708-0581.
