C. D. Bailey, an honored citizen of Perry for the past 23 years, died last night about 6:30 p.m. at the Kings Daughters Hospital. Cyrus Dunham Bailey was born at Salem, Indiana, on Dec. 6, 1844 to John Howard & Amanda Tull Bailey.
When a boy he moved with his family to Agency, Iowa. He was reared and educated there entering the mercantile business when becoming of age. In 1879 he moved to Adel and with his brother Chapman, operated a flour mill and general store for many years. Later he acquired his brother's interest in the store and disposed of the mill. In 1893 the big store was destroyed by fire and the following year the family came to Perry. Mr. Bailey has been interested in the clothing business here indirectly and built the block where the present F. W. Bailey store is located. He was married on Mar. 2, 1869 to Elizabeth Robinson, He is survived by his wife and four children, Flora, Roy, & Floyd Bailey and Ethel Dunlap. Three brothers, Randolph, Chapman & Charles; one sister Mrs. Clara Whitney. Three grandchildren. The funeral services will be tomorrow at the Methodist church. Burial will be at Violet Hill.
