Leland LaMar Hair

1930 - 2016


Early Life: LaMar was born November 30, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leland and Frances Christy Bench Hair. He spent his childhood in Duchesne, Utah, moving to Salt Lake City in 1942, where he attended Irvine Jr. High School and graduated from Granite High School. LaMar loved music. As a junior high school student, he played the drums for the Duchesne High School Band. His mother introduced him to the piano and he learned to play by ear.

Life's Work | Service | Interests: LaMar served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1950 to 1952. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1960. After graduation, he secured a position with Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles, California. It was there he met Kay Nielson, of Springville, Utah, in the summer of 1962. They married February 22, 1963, in the Manti Utah Temple. He raised his young family in Hacienda Heights, California. He advanced in his career to the position of senior vice president and retired from the bank in 1986, after 26 years of service. He returned to Utah with his family where he worked for AdMedia and Novell. As an active member of the Church, LaMar was blessed to serve in various callings throughout his life and cherished his opportunity to serve as a bishop. LaMar and Kay served a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois from 2001 to 2002. LaMar loved the Big Band Era and danced the foxtrot and jitterbug. He had a rich, bass voice and sang in ward choirs and in a missionary quartet in Nauvoo. He learned to play the ukulele on his mission and played frequently at various get-togethers, family nights, reunions, etc. He was fond of camping and riding motorcycles with his family. He loved his cars, especially his 1958 Corvette. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He has a strong testimony and love for Jesus Christ and showed it through his service to others. Loving father, husband, grandfather and dear friend, Leland LaMar Hair, passed from this earth on September 18, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 85.

Survived By: His wife; five children and their spouses: Lori A. H. Busche, Richard L. Hair (Christy), Mark L. Hair (Brigitta), Joel D. Hair (Angel), and Scott B. Hair (Teresa); and 20 grandchildren.

Preceded In Death By: His parents and his two sisters, Barbara Hair Ross and Lorille Hair Elggren.
