Fred was a farmer, a member of the Monkey Mutual Aid Society #1, an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing. Colleen A. Ernst, age 79 of Okeana, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 5:25 P.M. She was born in Butler County on November 10, 1924 the daughter of Alvin and Bertha (Miller) Decker. Colleen was a bartender at the Latin Lounge and Kiatta Saloon. She was a 55-year member of the Women's Bowling League and enjoyed dancing.
Fred and Colleen were married for 62 years. They are survived by their son, Doug Ernst and his wife, Loraine, of Richmond, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ron, Mike and his wife Betsy, Greg and Tracy; two step granddaughters, Debbie and Tammy; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
They were preceded in death by their parents; their son, Gene Ernst on March 26, 1999; Fred's brothers, Mark Ernst and Clarence Ernst; and Fred's sisters, Theresa Schomberg, Frances Gates, Kate Alvey, Rita Harden, and Mary Ann Sackenheim.
Funeral services will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial will follow in Darrtown Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to special friends, Tony Turner and Susan Schultheis for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
