Moses Dillon, Sr. came from the Little Falls area of Baltimore Co., Maryland, a devout Quaker and son of Peter and Elizabeth Dillon. He married Hannah Burson Griffith, in 1772, and they had the following children: Elizabeth (1773), Ann (1774), John (1776), Rebecca (1778-1782), Mary (1780), Rebecca (1783), Moses (1785), Hannah (1787), Martha (1789), Lloyd (1792-1794), and Isaac (1794). (see Gunpowder Monthly Minutes - Baltimore, MD)

In 1762, he sold his farm located in Harford County, PA and moved to near Uniontown, Fayette, PA. He partnered with a Col. Isaac Meason constructing a large furnace and foundry called Meason, Dillon & Co. at Dunbar's Run (apparently, they only lived there for a few years returning to Maryland). In 1805, after a visit the previous year to the Liking River area in Muskingum County, Ohio, on a missionary expedition, he purchased about 3,000 acres of land and moved his family to that area settling in a place which became known as Dillon's Falls Village.

Here, he established the first iron furnace and foundry west of the Allegheny Mountains near the Falls. The following year, he opened a general merchandise store which became an important trading point. In 1814, he built a gristmill and two sawmills. These mills, and the iron furnace and foundry, gave employment to as many as one hundred and fifty men. Hannah died 13 Jul 1824, age 75. Moses was engaged in business with his sons until near the time of his death in 1839. (1794 History of Muskingum, Ohio)

Moses married Martha Amos, daughter of William and Susanna Amos, on 1 Nov. 1826 in Baltimore Co., MD.

Moses and other family members were buried in the cemetery on land which was donated to the community by son John Dillon in 1810.

Dillon Park, Dillon Lake and Dillon Dam were named for them.Moses Dillon was born March 10, 1746/7, in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. He was the son of Thomas Dillon & Elizabeth Shaw. His paternal grandparents were, Nicholas & Mary Dillon, who emigrated from Northern Ireland in 1740. His maternal grandparents were, James Shaw & Mary Brown, both of English descent.
